Free Mines, with every pick's odds on show
Free Mines on a five-by-five grid: choose 1 to 24 mines, reveal tiles, cash out when you like. Positions are fixed by the seed before you click, and the survival odds of every pick are below. Play money, no account.
See the maths
The seed pair picks 3 mine positions without replacement: for each pick, index = floor(float × remaining). All positions are fixed before your first click; clicking only reveals them.
After k safe tiles the fair multiplier is Π C(25−i)/(25−3−i) for i < k; the payout multiplies that by 0.99 — the 1% edge.
Play money only. Nothing to buy, nothing to win, nothing leaves your browser. Reset the balance whenever you like.
Survival per pick, and the ladder
Each safe pick removes one safe tile from the pool, so the next pick is a little riskier. The chance that pick k is safe, given the earlier ones were, is (25 − m − (k − 1)) ÷ (25 − (k − 1)). The ladder multiplies those odds back out and takes 1% off the top.

How Mines works
Draw without replacement. The round asks the seed pair for m floats. For each, index = floor(float × remaining) picks a tile from the ones not yet chosen and removes it. That fixes all the mine positions before the grid is shown; clicking never changes anything.
The ladder is the odds, inverted. After k safe tiles the fair multiplier is one over the probability of getting there, and the game pays 0.99 of that. That is why every row of every table has the same 99% expected return: cashing out early or late moves the risk, not the average.
Verify any round. Press “Fairness seeds”, rotate to reveal the server seed, and the Verify link recomputes the layout from the seeds and mine count. The Mines strategy guide goes further into what the mine count does to a session.
Questions
- Are the mines placed before I click?
- Yes. The mine positions are drawn without replacement from the seed pair the moment the round starts: pick i is floor(float × remaining tiles) from the HMAC-SHA256 floats. Clicking only reveals. Rotate the seeds and any round can be recomputed to show the mines were where the game said they were.
- What are the odds of clearing several tiles with 3 mines?
- With 3 mines, the first pick is safe 88.0% of the time, three in a row 67.0%, and the payout after three safe picks is 1.4785×. Multiply survival by payout and you get 99% at every step: the ladder is the survival odds inverted, times 0.99.
- Is it better to pick more mines or fewer?
- Neither pays more on average. Ten mines makes each pick riskier (60% safe on the first click, 0.09% to survive ten) and the multipliers larger (1,078× after ten), but survival times payout is 0.99 in both cases. The mine count sets how spiky the outcome is, not what it is worth.
