Each row consumes one float from the HMAC stream: below 0.5 the ball goes left, otherwise right. The bucket is simply the number of rights — a binomial distribution, which is why the centre pays least and the edges pay most.

Multipliers are Stake's published tables for 16 rows / medium risk. Expected return = Σ P(bucket) × multiplier ≈ 0.99, i.e. a 1% house edge whatever the risk setting; risk changes variance, not expectation.

P(bucket k) = C(16, k) / 2^16

Play money only. Nothing to buy, nothing to win, nothing leaves your browser. Reset the balance whenever you like.

This is a free Plinko game and a Plinko simulator in one. It uses play money that resets whenever you like, so nothing is at stake. Every drop is provably fair: the ball's sixteen bounces come from HMAC-SHA256 of a seed pair you hold, and you can reveal the seed and recompute any round. The multipliers are the published tables, not softened ones, so the 16-row boards return 99.0%, 99.0% and 99.0% of the stake on average at low, medium and high risk. The tables below show the chance of landing in each bucket alongside what it pays.

The 16-row multiplier tables, with the odds

Sixteen fair coin flips decide the bucket, so the chance of bucket k is C(16, k) / 65,536: a binomial, which is why the board looks like a bell. The multipliers are the published table for each risk. Read across: the same bucket, the same odds, three different payouts.

Bucket 0 is the far left, 16 the far right. The centre bucket (8) is the most likely at 19.6% and pays 0.5×, 0.3× and 0.2× at low, medium and high risk. The edges pay 16×, 110× and 1,000× and are hit one drop in 65,536 per side.

Return is the sum over buckets of chance times multiplier. The three risks pay back the same 99-ish percent; what changes is how much of that return sits in rare edges (high) versus the common middle (low), which the standard deviation column measures.

How Plinko works

One float per row. The round computes HMAC-SHA256(server seed, client seed:nonce:cursor) and reads it four bytes at a time into floats between 0 and 1, one per row. A float below 0.5 sends the ball left, above 0.5 right. The bucket is simply how many rights there were. That is the whole game: sixteen coin flips, then a lookup in the table.

The table sets the risk, not the ball. Low, medium and high use the same bounces. High risk moves payout out of the middle and into the edges: the centre drops from 0.5× to 0.2×, and the edge rises from 16× to 1,000×. The average barely moves; the variance moves a lot.

Provably fair, even for free. Press “Fairness seeds” on the game to see the server seed hash (a commitment made before you drop), your editable client seed and the nonce. Rotate to reveal the seed and every round played under it can be recomputed; the Verify this round link does it for you. The methodology page walks through the construction, and the Plinko strategy guide compares all nine boards.

Questions

Is this free Plinko the same as the casino version?
Same construction and same multiplier tables. Each row is one HMAC-SHA256 float read as left or right, the bucket is the count of rights, and the payout is the published number for that bucket. Computed from the tables, the 16-row boards return 99.0% (low), 99.0% (medium) and 99.0% (high) of the stake on average, the same as the real game. The only difference is that the balance is play money.
What are the odds of hitting the 1,000× bucket?
On 16 rows at high risk, the 1,000× multiplier sits in both edge buckets. Each edge needs all sixteen bounces to go the same way, which is 1 in 65,536 per side, so either edge is 1 in 32,768 per drop (0.0031%). The most likely landing is the centre bucket at 0.2×, hit 19.6% of the time.
Can I win real money here?
